April 11 Polls: APGA Adopts Okezie Ikpeazu of PDP for Governor in Abia State

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Tuesday endorsed and adopted the Peopled Democratic Party, PDP candidate Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as state APGA candidate, come April 11 governorship elections in Abia.

At least one person died, Monday, as irate youths set ablaze Baptist Church at Gidan Maso village in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, while the residence of the pastor, Rev Habila Garba, was also burnt.
This came barely days after unidentified arsonists attacked a branch of Living Faith Church, popularly called Winners Chapel, at Giwa in Kaduna State.

The deceased, one of the pastor’s daughters, was said to have died of suffocation as parts of the house were destroyed by the fire, which resulted from the attack at about 7:30p.m.

In March, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, owners of DStv announced a 20% price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria. Multichoice said the increase, which was supposed to take effect from April 1st, was necessary for them to continue offering good quality programming to its subscribers. But the increase is not going to happen for now after a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos restrained the company from increasing the tariffs.

The restraining order was given at the court following a class action suit filed by two Lagos-based lawyers, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji, challenging the increase. The judge said there should be no increase until the court meets on April 16th to hear the case.

ATM hackers on the move

some Automated Teller Machines situated around some decent areas of Lagos have been attacked by hackers and electronic fraudsters, it has been learnt.

These hackers are have been fixing small fraud tools on the ATM in order to reap the passwords of cardusers who come to collect money or do some other business on the machines.

Top bank officials privy to the development said a number of banks had deployed detectives to monitor their ATMs in those locations, especially in the Victoria Island and Lekki axis.

Gertrude died Monday morning of complications from pneumonia, reports said.
Weaver passed away at the Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in the southern state of Arkansas, local TV station KATV reported.
Weaver was pronounced the world’s oldest person on April 1 after the death of 117-year-old Misao Okawa in Japan.


Weaver would have turned 117 on July 4.
She was aware of her unique status, the center said, according to the Washington Post.
“She knew that she was the oldest person in the world, and she enjoyed that distinction greatly. She enjoyed every phone call, every letter, every comment. Everything was read to her,” Kathy Langley, administrator of the Center, told the Post.

Another Nigerian on Indonesia Death Row for Drug Trafficking

Jakarta – Local media report on Thursday in Jakarta, said another Nigerian, Simon Ezeaputa, has been sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking.

It said the district court in Tangerang, near Jakarta, on Wednesday found Ezeaputa guilty of controlling a drug transaction from his prison cell, where he was serving a 20-year jail term for drug offences.

The report said the transaction involved 350 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

With the latest development more than 60 people are on death row in Indonesia for drug offences.

The report said Indonesia executed six drug convicts in January and was preparing to put to death another 10 death-row inmates.

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old pregnant woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge winner between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidates, while voting was on-going , weekend, at Ejigbo area of the state.
