A clergyman, Obi William and his wife, Ebere, have been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bayan Garin area of Bauchi state.
The happy couple was shot to death on Thursday, October 15, 2015 in cold blood in an increased spate of murder in the state in recent times.
William was a native of Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state and his wife, an indigene of Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, was a thrift collector before the unfortunate incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Bauchi command, Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident, informed that the gunmen assaulted the couple at Bayan Gari area in the state capital at about 7.45 pm on that fateful day.
“Police detectives attached to the Estate Division rushed to the scene and evacuated Williams and his wife to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi where they were certified dead on arrival by doctors.
“The exhibit recovered from the scene of the crime was an expanded ammunition of 7.62 mm and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” he explained.
Following the killing of the couple, the Commissioner of Police Mohammed Mohammed has reportedly held a meeting with members of the Igbo community and assured them of the safety of their lives and property.
Only last weekend, a couple were said to have survived a ghastly motor accident on Shagamu-Ore expressway after the driver was reported to be on top speed.
