National security spokesman Mike Omeri said on Wednesday that 36 towns had been retaken from Boko Haram since the start of a four-nation military offensive, voicing hope that the operation could lead to the group’s “total defeat”.
He also stated that four towns had fallen since last Friday, including three in Borno state and Buni Yadi, in neighbouring Yobe, where the insurgents slaughtered more than 40 students in February last year before seizing it in August.
Crucial “co-operations and alliances” have led to victories over the Islamist rebels, he said, thanking neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger for cutting off “the supply lines of the terrorists”.
“It is hoped that the unfolding regional cooperation will hasten the total defeat and extermination of Boko Haram in Nigeria and the sub-region,” he added.

Nigeria Army set to reclaim Bama

Investigation revealed on Tuesday that deployment of ground forces and equipment was preceded by days of targeted aerial operations in Bama and its environs.

The Nigerian Army has plugged a major operation to free the strategic town of Bama, Borno State from the deadly Boko Haram insurgents.

An intelligence source, who made this known, said that the military was expecting a productive result from Bama which was captured by the insurgents some time between September and October last year.

He also stated that, “The battle to liberate Bama has started; troops have started going in. You know that the Air Force was deployed last week to carry out targeted bombardment on the town.

“Bama promises to be a tough one because those people have fortified the place; they planted mines around the town but our soldiers are in high spirits to conquer.

INEC is not Prepared for March 28 and April 11 Election - PDPGF

The governors of the ruling peoples democratic party at an interactive
session with the media and civil society organisations in Lagos yesterday, also faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission preparedness for the elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has kicked against the use of card readers for the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

Before the interactive session titled ‘Sustenance of Democratic Values and National Development,’ ended, our correspondence learnt that INEC had summoned leaders of all the   political parties in Nigeria to a meeting on Thursday over the polls.

The governors at the Lagos forum were Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom);Ayo Fayose (Ekiti)  Liyel Imoke (Cross River);Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Babangida Aliyu (Niger) Bala Ngilari (Adamawa)and Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo).
Others   were  Jonah Jang (Plateau); Ibrahim Shema (Katsina);Mukhtar Yero (Kaduna) and Ibrahim Danwambo (Gombe).

The PDP also on Tuesday sent a Note to INEC detailing its observations on Saturday’s Card Readers mock in 12 states.
